Cass looked around.
“We’ll find it anyway. Maybe it’s not broken?” She walked up a nearby tree and vanished into the leaves. Prim accidentally stepped on a twig, making Natalie, Sami, Ali and I jump. Zoe spat acid onto the floor in surprise, leaving a smoking crater. Cass surfed down the tree trunk, grinning.
“This way,” she told us, and walked off, with the rest of us trotting behind.
Soon enough, we arrived in a small pavilion, and in the centre stood a small, dusty fountain. I listened. Somewhere nearby was the sound of water. I peered into the top of the fountain. Stuck in the pipe was a golden dragon scale. I looked around.
“It’s not broken at all! Come see,” I called. The others scampered over and peeked into the pipe. Zoe made a strange sound, like a bell ringing. It took me a moment to realise she was laughing.
“I can reach that!” she purred, and holding the rim of the pipe with her tiny hind claws, she leaned her long body down into the pipe, stretching out her foreclaws.
“I’ve got it!” came and excited squeak. Gently, I lifted the little dragon out of the pipe and jumped out of the fountain. There was a small rumble. No water. I tipped my head, concentrating. Shimmering blue water suddenly burst from the pipe, tumbling gracefully into the dusty pool below in a beautiful curtain, chasing away the dust and the years of spider-webs. Natalie and Prim carefully scooped up a flask-full of water each. Ali suddenly darted downwards, catching the surprised Zoe and lifting her up, high into the air. Then the blue-haired archer tucked the dragon into her chest and smiled down at her. Zoe blinked up, puzzled.
“You fixed it!” laughed Ali, allowing Zoe to leap lightly down onto the floor. Zoe stretched like a cat and looked up at us.
“I can take you home, if you like?” she offered. Prim yawned and nodded. It was rather late. Zoe purred and stretched herself out, her golden scales rippling as she unfurled herself, growing into a dragon large enough to carry us all. She crouched to help us get on, and took off, soaring away into the sky. First, she flew to the house Ali, Prim and Cass share, purring a goodbye as they entered their home. Then she carried Natalie, Sami and me home, and shrank back into a small dragon. She purred a soft goodbye and took off.
The next morning, we found Zoe asleep on the roof. She had no intentions of ever leaving. Sami looked at me and Natalie, who was in the doorway, clutching a cup of coffee and yawning.
“Can we keep her?”
Maybe I should have said this earlier. This story's Guest Star is Cheezles, (aka chezzalinko) as Zoe the dragon. XD
